Highlights of Zachys at Le Bernardin Prive, New York

Some of the many gems served during the Zachys Wine Vault II Auction at Le Bernardin Prive restaurant in New York.

Chateau Cheval Blanc 1995 (from Imperial). Medium ruby colour. Medium + intense nose with dark fruit, cedar wood, coffee and spicy exotic notes. Full bodied with Medium acidity, rich ripe fruit, raspberries, plums, cherries, black pepper. Tannins are velvety and well integrated. Long finish. An elegant, sexy wine.

Chateau Mouton Rothschild 1995. Medium ruby. Medium + perfumed nose with blackcurrant, cassis, cedar wood and lead pencil. Medium bodied with balancing medium + acidity. Ripe but gripping tannins. Medium intense black currant fruit, cassis, liquorice and some earthy notes. Medium finish. A charming classic Mouton.

Chateau Petrus 1982 (from double magnum). Medium ruby colour with orange rim. Classic intense nose of black cherries, plums and tobacco leaves. Full bodied with medium + acidity and velvety tannins that are perfectly integrated. Beautiful layers of red and black fruit with plums, blue berries, figs on the palate. Delicate texture. Long finish. A superb wine.

Chateau Trotanoy 1970 (from magnum). Medium garnet colour with orange rim. Fragrant medium + intense nose that shows cigars, smokiness, mint and earthiness. On the palate, the medium bodied wine is well balanced with medium + acidity and rounded tannins. Dark fruits such as black currant, cherry and plums dominate. Long finish with spicy hints. A mature classic Bordeaux from the right bank.

Chateau Latour 1966 (from magnum). Ruby colour. Smoky medium + intense nose with cherries, leather, earthy notes and floral hints. Medium bodied with ripe, grainy tannins and medium + acidity. Sweet cassis and blackcurrant fruit with a touch of black truffle. Real mid-palate drive. Long complex finish. A delicious and elegant 66.

Domaine Leroy Vosne-Romanee 1r cru Les Brulees 1990. Pale ruby. On the nose a delicious elegant fruit platter with black and red cherries, strawberries, blackberry, minerals and spice. The medium body palate is perfectly balanced between the medium+ acidity and silky tannins. Pure, intense but elegant sweet fruit of cherries and raspberries. Very long finish. A very pure and voluptuous wine.

Domaine Ramonet Batard Montrachet 2012. Bright medium gold colour. Nose of rich, ripe orchard fruit, melon, citrus and minerals. Medium body. On the dry palate, balanced medium + acidity and ripe, yellow fruit, pears, citrus and white flowers. Vanilla and toast. A very long, lingering finish. A delicious, sophisticated young white Burgundy.
