Dinner at Sartoria in London with Ben.
Domaine Fevre, Chablis Grand Cru Valmur 2004

Domaine Fevre was established in 1959 and owns 15 ha grand cru vineyards in Chablis. The hallmark of its wines is freshness and minerality.
The wine has a pale gold colour. Medium intense nose with floral and citrus notes and a hint of almond. The palate is medium bodied with a balance of crispy acidity and pure, tangy lemon fruit supported by the minerality. Medium + finish. An elegant and complex wine.
Domaine Leroy, Richebourg Grand Cru 2002
The domaine calls itself a ‘guardian of great wines’ and this is no exaggeration. Established in 1988 by Lalou Bize-Leroy by purchasing the estates of Charles Noellat in Vosne-Romanee and Philippe Remy in Gevrey-Chambertin it now owns 21 hectares. Vine-growing and wine-making strictly adhere to biodynamic principles. The wines are supremely elegant, concentrated and complex. The domaine owns plots in nine grands crus, including Richebourg (in Vosne-Romanee) which is known for its richness and intensity.
Medium ruby colour. Medium + intense nose of red fruit, mixed berries, strawberries and cherries. The palate is balanced with a medium + acidity, velvety tannins and very intense and precise black and red fruit, sour cherries. Minerals, coffee and bitter chocolate notes abound. The finish is rounded and very long. An outstanding and beautiful wine that goes on and on.
Domaine Dugat-Py, Charmes-Chambertin 2007
Bernard Dugat-Py and his son Loic are respectively 12th and 13th generation wine-makers in Gevrey-Chambertin where they own 10 hectares. The vines are often very old, averaging 65 years old. The domaine is totally organic (‘biologique’) since 2003 with as little intervention as possible in the vinification. As a result, the wines are concentrated, yet elegant and well balanced. Patience, however, is required for the grands crus.
Deep ruby colour. Powerful and intense nose of ripe red and black fruit, especially black cherries and blueberries. The palate is round and ample with a pronounced acidity, chewy tannins and rich lush red fruit. Lovely finish of spice and dark berries. Perfect balance and great depth.
